Scarf Time

During each baby storytime, I like to take a break and play with scarves. These are the songs I like to sing. Repeat these songs two or three times while baby plays with a scarf. Repetition is very important in developing baby's vocabulary, one of the six early literacy skills. Oh, and play with them! That's important, too!

We Wave Our Scarves
We wave our scarves together,
     (wave scarves)
We wave our scarves together,
     (wave scarves)
We wave our scarves together,
     (wave scarves)
Because it’s fun to do!
     (wave scarves)

Wave them up high!
(wave scarves up high while singing high-pitched)
Wave them down low!
(wave scarves down low while singing low-pitched)
Wave them in the middle!
(wave scarves in the middle while singing normally)

Pretty Bird
Pretty bird, pretty bird, through my window
     (flap scarves like bird wings)
Pretty bird, pretty bird, through my window
     (flap scarves like bird wings)
Pretty bird, pretty bird, through my window
     (flap scarves like bird wings)
Oh, honey, I’m tired!
     (rest scarf on baby’s head)

Now play peek-a-boo with baby!

This Is the Way
This is the way we wash our face,
     (pat scarf on face)
Wash our face, wash our face.
     (pat scarf on face)
This is the way we wash our face,
     (pat scarf on face)
So early in the morning!
     (pat scarf on face)

Tummy, arms, legs, toes, ears, nose, hair, and whatever else!

Here We Go
to the tune of Here We Go Looby Loo
Here we go up, up, up!
     (wave scarves up high)
Here we go down, down, down!
     (wave scarves down low)
Here we go side to side!
     (wave scarves side to side)
Here we go round and round!
(wave scarves in a circle and/or turn around)
